I did this for a production class sophomore year at SU. The rube goldberg machine took 8 hours to build, and it actually worked. You don't realize how frustrating those things are until you attempt to build one.

I kind of wanted to do the whole thing in one shot, just to prove my engineering genius to the world, but I decided against it. I know it worked.
